“Predators” Seen in the Canyon Lake Gorge.

“If it bleeds, we can kill it.”  Though Arnold is absent, Oscar winning actor Adrien Brody along with Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga and Walton Goggins are present, battling the return of the dreadlocked and deadly Predator(s).  Though filmed largely on location in the tropical jungles of Hawaii, some scenes were recently filmed in the Texas Hill Country – specifically, in areas of the Canyon Lake Gorge. Coming to a theater near you, summer 2010.  See the movie’s trailer here.  And if you would enjoy a guided tour of this local, geological intrigue, visit the Gorge Preservation Society.

Side note:  “A Perfect World” (1993) starring Clint Eastwood, Kevin Costner and Laura Dern was filmed in parts of Texas. In particular, the filming of a certain libidinous restaurant scene with Kevin Costner took place a few hundred yards from the Holiday Lodge on Canyon Lake at the Squat & Gobble (now closed).  During production, members of the film crew stayed at the Holiday Lodge.  Mr. Eastwood and Mr. Costner were presumably helicoptered to the urban, full service comfort of nearby San Antonio.  Their loss, we like to think.

After a prolonged, two year drought (2008 – 2009), all but five of Canyon Lake’s twenty-three boat ramps had closed.  Recent rainfall has raised Canyon Lake above 907 ft msl, sufficient for both County and USCOE (Corps of Engineer) officials to reopen all boat ramps.
